Damascus, (Syria) of Mamluk form, circa 1920.
This good example is hand constructed from raised heavy gauge sheet brass. The surfaces, (internally and externally), are finished with a chiseled geometric ground. An applied overlay of silver and copper further embellishes the surfaces.
Five shaped cartouches are incorporated to the exterior, each one of which contains an applied silver inscription of Kufic form - detailed by the first six images. The remaining images, detail the interior of the bowl, also incorporating five hexagonal inscribed cartouches.
Height - 2" (51mm), max diameter - 5 1/8" (129mm).
Weight - 214 grams.
Condition - Very Good. No dents or cracks and no repairs. Natural colour and patina.
